HMS Dublin was a Town-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy that was sent to the Dardanelles in 1915 to assist in the Gallipoli landings. In May 1915 she was posted to Brindisi, in the east of Italy, as part of the deal that brought Italy into the war. On 9th June 1915, while taking part in operations off the Albanian coast, HMS Dublin was hit and damaged by a torpedo from the Austrian submarine, U-4, an incident that resulted in the deaths of twelve of her crew and damaged the ship so badly that she had to return to the UK for repairs. Frederick Santillo was one of those who lost their lives. |
